Filipinos in UAE mark Philippine Independence Day early

  DUBAI – Hundreds of Filipinos flocked to the Dubai World Trade Center on Friday (May 12) to celebrate the 119th Philippine Independence Day. With Ramadan just around the corner, this year’s celebration is being held one month ahead of June 12, when the Philippines marks its independence from more than 300 years of Spanish rule. On Friday at Zabeel Hall 1, Filipinos from all walks of life came to mark the occasion. Many came dressed in traditional Filipino attire. Drum and lyre groups from at least three Filipino schools in the UAE added some lively music while Filipinos young and old paraded toward the stage. Festivities are expected to continue until 6pm, with Battle of the Bands, OPM singing competition, Pinoy Hairstyle competition and Mr. & Ms PID expected to draw huge crowds. An expo area also showcases Filipino brands and services. Artist Rannie Raymundo will also be performing at the event.
