Filipinos in UAE on mission to plant trees in Hatta

DUBAI – Filipinos in the UAE braved rainy conditions to complete a mission to plant trees in Dubai’s Hatta Mountain Biking Trail this weekend. Abu Hamad, chairman of Bikers Republic Abu Dhabi, said more than 30 volunteers from Dubai and Abu Dhabi showed up for tree-planting campaign on Friday (January 10). Hamad told Expatmedia.net that volunteers headed to the newly developed leisure hub in Dubai's Hatta to plant 150 saplings of a local tree. “We spent about three hours planting the saplings,” Hamad said. The campaign, organized by UAE MTB Jumeirah, was supported by the Hatta Dubai Municipality. Hamad said that it was important to plant more trees, especially in the Hatta bike trail area, “which has been developed to include a playground but lacks greenery”. The UAE has a long tradition of planting trees, with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launching an initiative to plant more than one million trees in the UAE before Expo 2020 in Dubai. Last week, the UAE also vowed to plant 10 million trees in Nepal and Indonesia after the unveiling of the UAE’s national logo and slogan.
