Filipinos in UAE warned against scammers offering repatriation help

DUBAI - The Philippine Embassy in the UAE has warned Filipinos against unscrupulous individuals, groups or travel agencies offering false claims of help in repatriation. “Be careful and don’t trust these scammers,” the embassy warned in a statement, urging Filipinos to report unscrupulous individuals to the embassy or consulate officials. The embassy said that certain individuals, groups and travel agencies have been circulating misleading messages through text or social media claiming that they can help repatriate Filipinos with the help of the Philippine Embassy or Philippine Consulate. “This is not true and there is no such repatriation effort by the Embassy and Consulate because of the ongoing suspension of flights imposed by the UAE and Philippine authorities,” according to the embassy. The embassy said that only stranded Filipino seafarers, with the financial assistance of their employer, are being repatriated through Philippine-bound chartered flights allowed by the UAE. For limited flights offered by some airlines, the embassy advised Filipinos to contact the airlines directly if they need to book a flight.
