Philippine consulate officials in Dubai warns against unlicensed cosmetic surgery

  DUBAI – Philippine consulate officials in Dubai on Wednesday (September 7) warned Filipinos against going for cosmetic services provided by unlicensed individuals following recent reports that a Filipino allegedly died from a botched cosmetic surgery. In its advisory, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates reminded Filipinos “not to transact with people who are unlicensed to provide medical services especially cosmetic procedures which may result to injury, disability or death”. In the latest incident, a Filipino allegedly died after undergoing cosmetic surgery at a salon in the northern emirates. Consulate officials said the incident is currently under investigation. Read more about this story Individuals offering cosmetic surgery in the black market usually charge cheaper fees for services like nose jobs, lip injections and other enhancements. However, these services are not licensed by local health authorities. In July, Dubai moved to ensure health and safety procedures are followed in salons by requiring salon workers in the emirate to obtain a health and safety certificate. The Dubai Municipality made it mandatory for workers in salons and personal care centres to undergo training and get a certification from the Department of Public Health and Safety. “This will enable them to provide services in a healthy and safe manner in order to help the community maintain its health and limit the transmission of contagious diseases to clients and workers alike,” the Dubai Municipality said in a statement. In Abu Dhabi earlier this year, municipality campaign teams conducted inspections at nearly 3,000 beauty salons in a crackdown against unsafe salon procedures and found more than 254 violations. The teams seized thousands of cosmetics and medical devices considered unsafe for users because these were not licensed or did not meet health standards.
