Final supermoon of 2022 to light up UAE skies on Thursday
This Thursday (August 11), the final and fourth supermoon of the year will shine over the UAE. The Sturgeon Moon, also referred to as the supermoon, was named after the seasonal sturgeon fish caught during this time of year. The best time to observe the celestial display, when it's the closest from the Earth, is from a vantage point. Experts explain a supermoon can appear up to 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than a full moon when it is furthest from the Earth. The moon will be visible in the early morning sky over Dubai, rising at 23:22, rising to an altitude of 64.9° above the eastern horizon, and then vanishing from view at around 04:40 when daylight breaks. According to experts, this lunar display will overlap with the Perseid meteor shower, one of the most eagerly anticipated meteor showers of the year.
