  DUBAI – Those who beat the red light will soon pay a bigger fine as well as get more black points. The Dubai Police announced yesterday that the amount of fine for red-light beaters will go up from Dh800 to Dh1,000 starting July 1. Aside from the fine, violators will also be meted 12 black traffic points and their vehicle will be impounded for 30 days. Currently, the police mete eight black points on motorists who beat a red light and impound their vehicle for 15 days. Brig. Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of the Dubai Police Traffic Department, pointed out that beating a red signal "is one of the most dangerous traffic offenses in the country as stats showed it can cause accidents followed by deaths and serious injuries beside damage. Usually, drivers accelerate when they cross the road signal and this can result in serious accidents." "Some drivers speed up when they reach a yellow signal and it's a dangerous behavior as he can cause direct impact with other cars, especially at major junctions," Al Mazroui added.
