Fines, lawsuit for unlawful drone use in UAE

  DUBAI – Anyone using unauthorised drones will attract legal action, including a fine, according to the Ministry of Interior. The ministry's regulatory committee on light air sports also emphasised the importance of implementing existing laws related to flying drones in the country. The ministry's statement on Tuesday follows incidents of drones being flown close to the UAE's airports, causing a temporary shut down that delayed hundreds of flights. Last month, the Dubai and Sharjah International Airports suspended their operations for nearly 90 minutes due to unauthorised drone interference. The Ministry of Interior said that drone users should get prior approval and register their details with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to avoid being fined. There are currently more than 400 drones registered with the GCAA. Drones are available for sale in stores in the UAE.
