* June 14 update: According to authorities, all 3,820 evacuated residents are safe. Cooling operations are still underway as of 11:30am. A fire broke out on the upper floors of a high-rise residential building in Dubai Marina on Friday evening (June 13), the Dubai Civil Defence confirmed to Expat Media. The incident occurred at Marina Pinnacle, also known as Tiger Tower, a 73-storey residential skyscraper with 748 units. Witnesses told Expat Media that flames and smoke were seen billowing from the top floors of the tower at 10pm, with firefighters quickly arriving on the scene to battle the blaze and ensure the safety of residents. “It looked like the fire started on one of the top floors. The fire trucks were here fast, and residents were being moved out immediately,” a resident who asked not to be named told Expat Media. Emergency crews, including units from Dubai Civil Defence, responded rapidly to the scene. The building was fully evacuated as a precautionary measure while firefighting efforts were underway. According to authorities, a total of 3,820 residents have been evacuated. As of this report, no casualties have been confirmed, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the fire.
