Fire-ravaged Dubai Marina tower to get Dh25 million upgrade

DUBAI – A residential building in Dubai that has remain uninhabited since it was damaged by a fire last year will be rebuilt at the cost of Dh25 million. The upgrade on Zen Tower will include fireproof cladding, new fire detectors, alarms and automatic sprinklers. Ashfaq Bandey, chairman of the owners’ association, said the upgrades are expected to greatly improve safety and reduce insurance premiums. The Zen Tower was ravaged by a fire in May, 2018. According to investigation, the fire was sparked by an electrical short circuit in an apartment on the first floor. No one was reported hurt in the incident, but the fire destroyed much of the building, forcing homeowners and tenants to look for alternative accommodation. Meanwhile, construction work is ongoing and is expected to be complete in 10 months.
