Tree native to Amazon to decorate Dubai streets

For the first time in Dubai, the bottle-shaped Chorisia tree will be planted along Al Meydan and Al Khail streets as part of the Dubai Municipality’s beautification project. The Chorisia, also known as Silk Floss Tree, is a tree that bears bright pink hibiscus-looking flowers. The tree, which belongs to the mallow family, features a broad and thorny trunk that serves as a water reservoir. The tree is native to the Amazon Rainforest in South America. It can reach a height of 25 metres and is often used in other parts of the world as a decorative tree because of its colorful flowers. The tree also bears fruits with bean-sized black seeds and large pods. According to the Dubai Municipality, the special tree will be planted along Al Meydan and Al Khail Streets in an area covering 302,266sqm. The area will be equipped with fully automated irrigation systems. Multi-coloured lighting systems will also be installed at the intersections to complete the beautification project. ICA/Expat Media
