First fetal medicine center opens in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi’s first-of-its-kind fetal medicine and therapy center opened its doors to enhance pregnancy outcomes and save the lives of more infants and mothers. Professor Kypros Nicolaides, also known as the "Father of Fetal Medicine," stated that the Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine and Therapy Center at Burjeel Medical City will deliver high-quality care in the UAE and abroad. “I aim to better the standard and quality of the fetal medicine care that people of the UAE receive,” Nicolaides said in an interview. Fetal medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on the health of the mother and fetus before, during, and immediately after pregnancy, particularly in high-risk instances. Pregnant women in the region often travel to the West to seek care for complicated fetal conditions. The new center intends to fulfill the growing need for fetal medicine and therapy. The extensive research and medical practice achievements of Nicolaides have revolutionized fetal medicine, from the introduction of intrauterine blood transfusions for fetal anemia to the performance of endoscopic laser surgery for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. He is a recipient of the Grand Cross of Makarios III, the highest civilian honor in Cyprus. BKM/ Expat Media
