Emirates temporarily suspended operations to and from Dubai on February 28, 2026 due to multiple regional airspace closures.

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced a closure of UAE airspace on Saturday (February 28), describing it as an exceptional precautionary measure to ensure the safety of flights and aircrews amid rapidly evolving regional security developments. The Authority said the decision followed a comprehensive assessment of operational and security risks, carried out in coordination with national and international partners. The GCAA confirmed that airspace safety and the protection of UAE sovereignty remain absolute priorities. It added that updates will be shared as developments unfold and urged passengers to contact their airlines for the latest flight information. Airlines, in coordination with local authorities, are expected to provide accommodation and assistance where necessary. The move comes as Israel confirmed it had launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran, prompting airspace restrictions and flight suspensions across parts of the Middle East.

UAE airports

Dubai Dubai Airports confirmed that all flight operations at Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC) are suspended until further notice. Dubai Airports urged travellers to check with their airlines before heading to the airport. Authorities said operational safety and passenger wellbeing remain the top priorities. Sharjah Sharjah Airport issued an advisory informing passengers of cancellations and delays. Travellers were advised to check directly with airlines for updated schedules.

Emirates Emirates suspended operations to and from Dubai due to multiple regional airspace closures until 3pm on March 2. The airline said it is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant authorities. Passengers were advised to check flight status before travelling to the airport. Emirates apologised for the inconvenience and said assistance is being provided for rebooking, refunds or alternative travel arrangements. The airline stressed that safety remains its highest priority.

Qatar The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority announced a suspension of all air traffic amid heightened security concerns. Airlines and passengers were advised to follow official updates. Kuwait The Kuwaiti Public Authority for Civil Aviation confirmed the closure of Kuwaiti airspace as a precautionary step. Spokesman Abdullah Al-Rajhi told the Kuwait News Agency that the move was aimed at preserving the safety and security of passengers and airline operations. India Air India announced the suspension of all flights to destinations in the Middle East. In a statement posted on X, the airline said: “In view of the developing situation in parts of the Middle East, all Air India flights to all destinations in the Middle East have been suspended.” Authorities across the region continue to review security conditions, with aviation regulators prioritising passenger and crew safety.
