Facilities will help firemen fight any blaze that can occur along the waterway

DUBAI – Floating fire stations on the Dubai Canal? Lt. Col. Ali Al Mutawa, head of operations of the Dubai Civil Defense, said a model of the floating fire stations would be exhibited at the Intersec next week. The Intersec is a trade fair for security, safety and fire protection. Al Mutawa said floating fire stations would enable them to efficiently fight any fire that occurs along the waterway. The pros and cons of the floating fire stations will be looked into before it is adopted, he added. Fire safety has been a major issue in the UAE, with fire damaging a number of buildings the previous years. The most recent fire to hit the country occurred at the Oceana building on Palm Jumeirah in December last year. During the trade fair, Al Mutawa said a new 1,564-page UAE Code for Fire Safety will be launched. Meanwhile, Al Mutawa said the Dubai Civil Defence will focus on smart electronic innovations to make their job more efficient. "Several apps will be introduced and we are working on establishing an operations centre that is akin to the centre that manages safety and security in Dubai," said Al Mutawa.
