Former President Rodrigo Duterte to run for Davao City mayor in the upcoming 2025 elections. Duterte arrived at the Commission on Elections office on Monday (October 7), to file his certificate of candidacy (COC). He was joined by his wife, Honeylet Avanceña, his son, Mayor Sebastian Duterte, Vice Mayor Jay Melchor Quitain, as well as close friends and supporters. The crowd cheered enthusiastically as he made his way to the office. Sebastian will be his running mate, while Quitain will submit his certificate of candidacy to run for councilor in the first district. The former president's grandson and current Buhangin barangay captain Omar Duterte will also run for second district representative. His father, Paolo Duterte, Davao City’s first district representative, is also seeking reelection. During a media interview on Saturday night, Duterte hinted at his possible run for mayor and repeated his familiar "kill" talk where he warned drug addicts and criminals that he would kill them. This statement previously led to a case against him at the International Criminal Court (ICC). “If I’m going to run against as mayor, this early, I’m saying, better go to Cebu or Manila, not here in Davao City because, if I’m going to be mayor here, you will really die,” he said in Filipino.
