The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi will open its doors for free from Saturday (May 16) to Monday (May 18) as part of celebrations marking International Museum Day. The three-day event will feature interactive workshops, live science sessions and behind-the-scenes experiences designed to make science and discovery accessible to visitors of all ages. According to organisers, the initiative aims to strengthen the museum’s role as a hub for education and curiosity-driven exploration. On May 16 and 17, visitors can participate in drop-in workshops including sun printing, colour and shadow laboratory, constellation light laboratory, shadow safari and a Wiggly Creatures Workshop. The activities combine storytelling, experiments and creative exploration to introduce children and families to scientific concepts in engaging ways. On May 18, the museum will shift focus to the science behind museum operations. Visitors can join the Build a Mini Exhibit workshop, where participants will curate and design their own displays while learning how museums classify and present collections. The museum will also host its Meet the Scientists Series, giving guests the opportunity to interact directly with resident experts and in-house researchers. The sessions will offer insights into scientific research, specimen preservation and the work involved in maintaining world-class collections. Museum opening hours are Monday to Thursday, from 10am to 6:30pm; and Friday to Sunday, from  10am to 8:30pm. Visitors are encouraged to monitor the museum’s website for registration updates and activity schedules.
