A dining spot in Satwa is opening its doors to give back, offering free meals to residents in need in a show of community spirit. Chinese Star Restaurant, located inside Hong Gourmet Hypermarket, will serve free meals on Thursday (April 17) from 12pm to 2pm. The initiative is part of the Bayanihan Meal programme led by the Philippine Business Council Dubai, marking its third stop in Dubai. Due to limited slots, residents are encouraged to register in advance via this link. Organisers said the effort aims to support residents affected by the current situation, particularly members of the Filipino community. “Together, let’s keep the spirit of bayanihan alive, supporting and uplifting one another when it matters most,” organisers said. Priority will be given to council members and their staff, although organisers said they will try to accommodate as many non-members as possible. More than just a meal distribution, the initiative reflects the Filipino value of “bayanihan”, a spirit of unity and helping others in times of need. The event also highlights how local businesses are stepping up to support residents during challenging times, using food as a way to bring people together.

A food destination with a growing following

Chinese Star Restaurant and Hong Gourmet Hypermarket have quickly become go-to destinations for food lovers looking for authentic Asian flavours. The space features shelves stocked with sauces, snacks, and specialty items from across Asia, alongside a bustling dining area serving freshly cooked dishes. “Hong Gourmet is an extension of my passion for food,” she added. “I wanted to create a space where people could shop for authentic Asian products and also enjoy traditional meals in one place.” Beyond the one-day giveaway, Chinese Star Restaurant and Hong Gourmet Hypermarket are also offering budget-friendly meal deals this April, with prices starting at Dh9.90 in Satwa and Al Ghurair Centre.
