Black points and traffic fines for illegally modified cars as Dubai Police chief reiterates warning against modified vehicles

  DUBAI – The chief of Dubai Police on Saturday (June 11) reiterated a warning to motorists against illegal car modifications after police confiscated 81 cars used by their owners in illegal street races in Dubai. Dubai Police Chief Mattar Al Mazeina said it is illegal to modify vehicles without the necessary permits. “The law also prohibits drivers from making excessive noise and modifying their vehicles with lights and other after-market parts that could endanger others on the road,” Al Mazeina said. Another traffic law violation is the installation of after-market xenon lights, which is considered a federal traffic offence and could attract a fine of Dh200 and six black points. Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai Traffic Police, had told media in an earlier interview that it is illegal to install after-market xenon lights on cars, explaining that the bright lights can be distracting to motorists. “The stock xenon light that come fitted on the vehicles are fine as they follow quality standards and regulations, but the after-market ones do not,” he clarified.
