Fugitive pastor Apollo Quiboloy has been captured, according to an announcement made by Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Benhur Abalos Jr. on Sunday (September 8). The unexpected revelation was shared in a brief Facebook post, where Abalos confirmed the arrest of the controversial religious leader without providing additional details. "Nahuli na po si Apollo Quiboloy (Quiboloy has been caught)," Abalos stated, accompanying the post with a photo of Quiboloy. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) later clarified that Quiboloy is currently en route to Metro Manila, where he will be taken to the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City. Quiboloy’s lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, in a statement, said that the religious leader “voluntarily surrendered to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, specifically the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces, or ISAFP.” Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc., has been a fugitive since US authorities indicted him on multiple charges, including sex trafficking, fraud, and conspiracy. Despite being on the run, Quiboloy remained a powerful figure in the Philippines, frequently making headlines for his political influence and controversial claims, including his self-declared status as the "Appointed Son of God." His capture marks a significant development in the international case against Quiboloy, who has been evading authorities since the charges were first filed. US prosecutors have long sought his extradition to face trial for the alleged exploitation and abuse of followers, including minors, in both the Philippines and the US. As of Sunday, the DILG has yet to release further information regarding Quiboloy's capture, and it remains unclear whether his detention will lead to immediate legal action or extradition proceedings. The PNP has reportedly increased security measures in anticipation of Quiboloy's arrival in Camp Crame. Quiboloy has been a polarizing figure, enjoying the support of millions of followers while simultaneously being the subject of multiple lawsuits and criminal investigations. His arrest is expected to reignite public debate on the power and influence of religious leaders in the country. Further updates on Quiboloy’s legal status and the potential consequences of his arrest are expected in the coming days as authorities assess the situation.
