Authorities in Fujairah have launched a massive infrastructure project that will see the construction of a 77km rainwater drainage network and development of 31km of roads across key areas of the emirate. The directive came from Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, as part of efforts to modernize infrastructure and address flood risks during heavy rains. The project covers several areas, including Dibba Al Fujairah, Al Hail, Qidfa, Wadi Al Sidr, and others. Two road tunnels are also planned—one 1.2km tunnel in Al Sharia and another 1.4km tunnel alongside Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital. Salem Mohammed Ali Al Maksah, director of the Fujairah Public Works and Agriculture Department, said additional improvements would include street lighting, signage, speed bumps, and new pedestrian crossings along key roads such as the Corniche, Sheikh Zayed, and Al Ghurfa. “These developments are aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow and public safety,” Al Maksah said.
