The grandfather of two Emirati children who were killed in a fire that swept their home in Fujairah has shared how his family tried to save them. The children died after a fire broke out in their home in the Tawiyin area on Tuesday (June 25). They were identified as 8-year-old girl Tayf Al Yammahi and her 7-year-old brother, Naif. Their younger brother, Hamad, was seriously injured in the fire. Speaking to media, their grandfather, Rashid Al Yammahi, said the children were trapped in their room when the fire broke out. Rashid said his son, Ammar, who is the father of their children, and their relatives rushed to rescue the children but that the door was jammed and could not be opened. "They all tried to force open the door but when it was finally opened, the two kids were already dead," he recalled. Rescuers were able to pull out 5-year-old Hamad and gave him first aid before taking him to Dibba Hospital. He has since been transferred to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi for specialized treatment for burns. Two other children, all under 4-years-old, escaped unharmed. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. Major General Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, has expressed his condolences to the family and wished a speedy recovery to the injured child.
