Authorities in Fujairah have launched an investigation following an oil spill that affected Al Aqah Beach near the popular Snoopy Island. The Fujairah Environmental Authority reported that beachgoers first noticed streaks of oil on the shore on Friday (October 18), prompting an immediate cleanup operation. The environmental authority acted swiftly, ensuring the beach was safe for visitors by Saturday (October 19). An investigation is underway to identify the source of the spill and those responsible. The authority has assured the public that legal action will be taken against anyone found to have compromised the environment. An official from the authority said, “We are committed to protecting our natural resources, and those who violate the law by polluting our beaches will face serious consequences. We will not show leniency.” The authority has called on the public to remain vigilant and report any environmental violations via its toll-free hotline 800368, stressing that the cooperation of the community is essential in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of Fujairah’s beaches. While oil spills are rare in the region, the event has raised concerns about the impact on marine life and the long-term effects on the coastal environment. Local environmental groups have also expressed their commitment to assisting the government in restoring the affected areas.
