Fujairah Police announces road safety campaign, urges pedestrians to follow rules

Fujairah Police has announced a road safety campaign titled 'I have the right to cross safely,' and increased street patrolling to minimize hit-and-run accidents. The month-long project, organized to accomplish the Ministry of Interior's strategic goal, aims to make roads safer and increase traffic awareness among all population segments while protecting pedestrian safety and lowering the ratio of deaths and injuries. The campaign attempts to promote safe pedestrian and automobile crossing behavior. It focuses on raising knowledge about pedestrians' right to cross safely and providing priority to old inhabitants, women, children, and determined individuals. Colonel Saleh Muhammad Abdullah Al-Dhanhani, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, emphasized the importance of improving cooperation between motorists and pedestrians, which helps to reduce run-over accidents caused by speeding, reckless driving, and distracted driving by both vehicle drivers and pedestrians. He asked drivers to be cautious and obey speed restrictions, especially in congested locations such as marketplaces, residential neighborhoods, and roads near schools. Pedestrians who fail to follow traffic signals or cross in undesignated places will be fined Dh400. In contrast, motorists who fail to prioritize pedestrians at designated crossings will be fined Dh500 and given six black points. First Lieutenant Moza Abdulsalam Al Darmaki, Director of the Traffic Awareness and Information Branch, stressed the need for vehicle drivers to adhere to traffic laws and regulations to avoid traffic accidents that could result in loss of life and property.
