The Fujairah Federal Court of First Instance has sentenced two Asian men to life in prison for smuggling and possessing 925 narcotic tablets through Fujairah International Airport. The defendants, aged 30 and 36, claimed the tablets were harmless medication. However, forensic analysis confirmed they contained morphine and papaverine, both classified as narcotics under UAE law. Court records show that one man was stopped at Fujairah airport in June, with the drugs hidden in his luggage. His accomplice, who had arranged the smuggling attempt, was arrested a month later at Dubai airport while attempting to flee. Both men gave contradictory accounts, one insisting the tablets were for stomach issues and the other saying they were sexual stimulants. The court ruled that the large quantity, concealment, and financial arrangements proved intent to traffic. In addition to life imprisonment, the court ordered the confiscation of the drugs, deportation after serving the sentence, and payment of legal fees.
