Once restricted to certain industries and roles, freelance visas have expanded to welcome an array of careers, from personal training to engineering, and everything in between. By positioning itself as a global hub for remote and freelance work, the UAE is attracting the world’s brightest talent, lured by the lifestyle, safety and economic benefits of one of the world’s most liveable cities. Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Digital Economy, AI and Remote Working System, says the UAE’s technological advantages have provided robust infrastructure to support workers in the digital era. “Remote work is now a main way of work and not an option," Al Olama says, adding that remote work is a "competitive advantage that improves the quality of life of residents and visitors to the UAE.” Citing figures from YouGov, Al Olama says that 46 percent of workers in the UAE work remotely. A new survey by Bayt.com found that 89 percent of professionals in the Middle East and North Africa plan to do more freelance work this year for better work-life balance.

Multiple free zones across the UAE offer freelance visas: Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone, Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Knowledge Park, Dubai Design District, Ajman Free Zone and Creative City Media Free Zone in Fujairah. Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (Dafza), Dubai Culture, General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development.

How much does it cost?
