Gang who kidnapped Chinese man in Dubai to be deported

A three-member gang of men from Tajikistan will be deported from Dubai after serving their prison terms for kidnapping a Chinese man in the emirate. The Dubai Court of Appeal reduced their prison terms from three years to six months, but upheld their deportation order. They were also ordered to pay a fine of Dh29,800. According to court records, the men were hired by a 26-year-old Chinese woman to kidnap her compatriot over a Dh20,000 debt that he owed her. The men kidnapped the victim from International City in Dubai last November and took him to a deserted area where they assaulted him and stole his money and valuables worth Dh29,000. In his testimony in court, the victim said that the gang attacked him at the building where he lived at 2am. “They tied my hands with tape and put me in the back seat. They covered my face using my shirt and took me to a deserted area,” he told the court. He said that the men also called his brother and demanded ransom. They then stole his watch worth Dh6,000, a mobile phone, ring and Dh16,000 in cash. Dubai Police was able to track the perpetrators using surveillance camera footage. Their rented white Hyundai car used in the kidnapping was tracked to an isolated area in Al Jadaf where police found the victim with one of the men. Police arrested the suspect on site, and later arrested two other men involved in the kidnapping.
