Trio jailed for teen’s gang rape in Dubai

  DUBAI – An Indian teenager who was gang raped by her Bangladeshi friend and his two friends received justice on Tuesday (December 6) after the Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the rapists to one year in prison. The Indian, 17, said that the incident happened in Al Muhaisnah in October, 2015 after she agreed to go on a ride with her 24-year-old friend. She said that when the Bangladeshi picked her up in his car, his Pakistani and Emirati friends, both aged 28, were already sitting at the backseat of the vehicle. "They drove to Ajman where they consumed alcohol and I refused to drink. They drove back to Al Muhaisnah where they parked in a deserted area,” she testified in court. She said that when the Emirati and Pakistani alighted from the car, the Bangladeshi then asked to have sex with her. "When I refused, he took away my phone and then he asked me to go out. The other two men were standing outside and there was another vehicle parked there. They asked me to sit in the back seat of the other vehicle and wait. I sat there for a few minutes before the Bangladeshi came and raped me first the other two followed,” she told the court. The teen said she was “very scared” to reject their advances. “I had to surrender myself because I was too frightened,” she said. The Dubai Court of First instance convicted the trio of having forced sex and also ruled that the Bangladeshi and Pakistani be deported after serving their prison term.
