An investigation is underway after a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder exploded in a factory in Abu Dhabi’s industrial area, according to Abu Dhabi Police. The incident happened on Saturday (September 24) in a gas refilling factory in the Mafraq Industrial Area. No one was reported killed or injured in the incident. The gas explosion sparked a fire that civil defence teams were able to put under control. Authorities, meanwhile, urged the public to refrain from sharing rumours about the incident, adding that an investigation on the circumstances regarding the explosion and subsequent fire is still underway. In Abu Dhabi, no more than two 24kg gas cylinders are allowed to be kept in one place in shops and kitchens located in buildings without central gas supply. In buildings and facilities using central gas, the General Directorate of Civil Defence-Abu Dhabi has banned the use of LPG cylinders. Abu Dhabi authorities also stressed that installation and maintenance of central gas systems should be carried out by companies approved by the Civil Defence.
