DUBAI – Two people were killed and 120 others injured after a gas explosion and subsequent fire at a restaurant in Abu Dhabi on Monday (May 23), according to Abu Dhabi Police. Police did not disclose details about the identities of the casualties and injuries. According to Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, 56 people suffered moderate injuries and another 64 had minor injuries. Abu Dhabi Police shared its “sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased”. ALSO READ: Indian among 2 killed in Abu Dhabi gas cylinder blast The incident happened at a restaurant in Al Khalidiya area, according to Abu Dhabi Police. The building was evacuated as a precaution, and emergency teams were still working on the site. Six buildings were damaged. The Indian restaurant is located in a five-storey building near the Shining Towers complex behind Khalidiyah Mall in the UAE capital. Parked vehicles parked near the area were also damaged and covered with debris. The explosion happened at around 1pm when nearby residents heard a loud explosion and felt their windows shake from the impact of the blast.
