Working expats in the UAE who are citizens of countries under the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are covered by the UAE’s mandatory retirement and insurance system. Here’s all you need to know. 1.GCC citizens employed in companies based in the UAE are part of the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) retirement and insurance system. They are entitled to receive end-of-service benefits and retirement pensions in accordance with the pension regulations of their respective home countries. 2.The insurance coverage also applies to the recipients of the insured person, as well as those who were financially reliant on the insured or retired individual for their entire life. 3. In order to be eligible for registration, individuals must hold GCC nationality and work for an employer who adheres to the regulations of the pension and social security legislation. 4.The pension authorities work together with both the employees' work country and residence country to make sure that employees are registered and oversee the monthly payments, following the regulations set by the employer. 5. The responsibility for making contributions on behalf of the GCC national lies with the employer within the GCC insurance extension system. 6. All citizens of the GCC who work in the public and private sectors in the UAE, including those in free zones, as well as the hospitality and tourism industries are required to register. 7.The deduction from the employee's salary along with the employer's required contribution, must be made and securely transferred to the designated pension system bank account in the employee's country of residence. 8. Both the employer and the insured individual are required to register. Not registering and contributing on behalf of the insured can result in legal consequences. 9. Covered individuals who are protected under the extension system have the opportunity to combine their past work experience with their current employer. 10.Individuals can link their previous service periods in their countries of origin, following the terms and conditions set by their affiliated pension authority.
