Girl falls to death from Sharjah building, parents probed

  SHARJAH - A five-year-old American girl died after falling from the 19th floor of a high-rise building in Sharjah on Sunday, police said. The parents of the deceased are being questioned on suspicion of negligence. Police said the girl, identified through her initials A.S.N.A., was killed instantly by the impact of the fall. Her body was taken to Al Qassimi Hospital for autopsy. According to investigators, the girl was alone in the apartment at the time of the incident. She had reportedly climbed onto a piece of furniture and fell out of the window. Under the UAE Child Rights Law, it is illegal to put children in harm's way. Violators face penalties ranging from a fine to jail term of not less than 10 years.
