In a harrowing incident in New York, a 4-year-old girl named Promise survived alone for days after her mother and brother were found dead in their apartment. Lisa Cotton, 38, and her 8-year-old son Nazir Millien were discovered lifeless after relatives, unable to reach them, sent Cotton’s eldest daughter to check on the family. According to the New York Post, authorities believe Lisa may have suffered cardiac arrest due to asthma, while Nazir, who relied on a feeding tube, is believed to have died from starvation. Promise, surviving on chocolate, was hospitalized and is now in the care of her grandfather, Hubert Cotton. “I had been trying to call her for days,” said Hubert. “When the landlord called asking if Lisa had moved out, I asked my granddaughter to check, and she found them.” Neighbors had reported a foul smell coming from Lisa’s apartment for weeks. A welfare check by police days earlier reportedly didn’t result in entry due to no signs of immediate danger. Social workers were also seeking a court order for forced entry. Lisa had a history of mental illness and a prior child endangerment arrest in 2021. The NYPD has launched a full investigation into the circumstances of the deaths. ICA/Expat Media
