5 futuristic things we saw at Gitex Tech Week 2017

DUBAI – It’s Gitex Tech Week and the arsenal of advanced technology on display is enough to blow us away. The Dubai Police led the way, showing us its impressive futuristic transport and technology that are coming our way soon. Check them out. HOVERSURF Dubai traffic? Not a problem with the Hoversurf (pictured above). The flying bike can carry a policeman above heavy traffic to quickly respond to emergency situations. It can also fly without a passenger and can go up to six kilometres at a speed of 70km/h. Plug it in and for a full charge, it can fly for up to 25 minutes, carrying a load of up to 300kg. The Dubai Police said that the flying bike may soon be flown in Dubai.

AUTO POLICE PATROL This smart motorbike—developed by Japanese company Mikasa—carries multiple cameras that can spot reckless drivers. dubai police smart bike

Its eight advanced cameras can take high-resolution photos and videos of traffic violators. The motorbike is battery-operated and can go up to a speed of 200km/h.

DRIVERLESS PATROL CAR It is the size of a child’s electric toy car, but don’t let that fool you. This driverless patrol car packs a lot of technology to scan crowds for persons of interests, criminals and criminal activities. police car

Its cameras are linked to the Dubai Police command room. It also comes with a drone that the police officer can access using a fingerprinting device. Expect to see this patrol car at tourist areas in Dubai.

ROBO COP This intelligent robotic police stands at 170 centimetres tall and weights 100kg but it can detect your emotions, facial expressions and gestures and interact with you. When it is on patrol mode, Robocop uses artificial intelligence and the latest smart technologies to identify and catch offenders as well as broadcast live video feeds to the Dubai Police command room.

AIR TAXI This two-seater driverless air taxi can get you quickly to any destination in Dubai when it is rolled out by the Roads and Transport Authority in the not-so-distant future. The air taxi has a height of seven meters, with nine independent battery systems that takes two hours to fully recharge for a flight time of 30 minutes at a cruise speed of 50km/h and maximum air speed of 100km/hr. Is it safe? It’s got top security and safety featuers, including optional emergency parachutes.
