Dubai’s popular outdoor destination Global Village Dubai will reopen to visitors on Monday (April 20) after more than a month of closure due to regional security concerns. “We can’t wait to welcome you again starting from Monday, April 20 at 5pm,” Global Village said in an official announcement. The attraction had been closed since March 1 as a precautionary safety measure, following missile and drone attacks on the UAE that began on February 28. Authorities issued emergency alerts at the time, prompting temporary shutdowns of several public venues across the country. According to the UAE's Ministry of Defence, the attacks over a 40-day period targeted infrastructure, energy facilities and civilian areas, resulting in casualties and property damage. As of April 9, the death toll stood at 13, including two military personnel and a civilian contractor, while 224 others were injured. A ceasefire announced between the US and Iran has since led to improved security conditions. The Ministry of Defence said UAE airspace has remained clear of threats since April 9, with no missiles or drones detected.

Possible extension of season

The reopening comes as Global Village’s milestone 30th season enters its final stretch. Officials have not confirmed a new closing date, but the season is expected to be extended into late May. Last year, Season 29 was extended by one week, closing on May 18, 2025 instead of its original May 11 schedule. While many exhibitors welcomed the reopening, some have raised concerns about financial losses during the closure. One exhibitor, Jitendra Sankhla, shared an appeal addressed to management, highlighting the challenges faced by businesses operating in the venue. “For the past few months, Global Village has remained closed, and behind this closure, many exhibitors like us are silently struggling,” Sankhla said. “This is not just about business losses. It is about families, responsibilities, and livelihoods that depend on this platform.” He urged management to consider support measures such as rent waivers or reduced costs to help exhibitors recover. “Your one decision can bring relief to many families and restore confidence among exhibitors,” he added.
