Going to church in Dubai? The Dubai Police has an advisory

DUBAI - Thousands of churchgoers are expected to flock St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubai for the upcoming Easter weekend, with church officials and police issuing an advisory to visitors. "The Dubai Police advise churchgoers not to bring big bags or backpacks from Thursday, March 29 until Sunday, April 1. Bags will be inspected and any unwanted materials will be taken," according to a church announcement. The announcement was made at St. Mary's Catholic Church as the Holy Week began. It culminates on Easter Sunday on April 1. Inspections are a routine affair for the Dubai Police during huge gatherings to ensure the safety of residents. Inspections were also carried out during last year's Holy Week, delaying a throng of people headed inside the church premises. Churchgoers who underwent inspections that time told expatmedia.net that police searched their bags for dangerous items and sharp objects such as knives, scissors and nail clippers. According to St. Mary's Church, police this week may inspect bags for any unwanted items from Thursday until Sunday.
