Spurned lover jailed for running over security guard in Dubai

  A 32-year old Gulf national was sentenced to six months in prison in Dubai for intentionally running over a security guard after a fight with his fiancée. The fiancée testified during an investigation that her fiancé was near her residence during the incident. The Gulf national allegedly came to get the phone he had given her after she wanted to break up with him due to his alcohol addiction. An argument ensued after she got into his vehicle. She called for help when her fiancé started attacking her and opened the car door while the vehicle was moving. A security guard who heard the woman's call for help held on to the door of the moving car, resulting in him being run over. The convicted man was fined Dh50,000 and an additional Dh150,000 as compensation for the family of the security guard. JMS/ Expat Media
