Sharjah grants Dh1 million to continue Hamda charity projects
The Ruler of Sharjah has granted Dh1 million to complete the charity projects of popular UAE racer and philanthropist Hamda Taryam, who died on Saturday (January 27). The death of Hamda, 24, shocked the local and drag racing community. News of her death was confirmed by a family member although the cause of death was not disclosed. Hamda was known as one of the first Emirati drag racers and she shot to fame on the Netflix show, The Fastest. She spent her earnings in charitable works in Uganda where she has built a school, hospital and wells through her Hamda Foundation for Charitable Investments. On Sunday (January 28), Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, announced that a Dh1 million donation would be made to support Hamda’s projects in Uganda. The pledge will be made through the Sharjah Charity Association. The Hamda Foundation for Charitable Investments has helped establish various charitable projects in Uganda, including the Hamda Vocational and Social Institute that provides free professional training to orphaned students. The foundation also opened a non-profit hospital in Uganda, which has treated 300,000 patients for free since it opened in 2020. In a previous media interview, Hamda said helping other people was her mission in life. Drag racing was her passion, and she got her first paid project at 15.
