Food enthusiasts in Dubai were treated to a celebration of Filipino cuisine at the recent "Hapag-Kainan: Celebrating Filipino Flavors" event. Organized by the Philippine Business Council in Dubai and the League of Food and Beverage Entrepreneurs, the event on Wednesday (October 16) coincided with World Food Day and showcased a rich array of traditional and modern Filipino dishes. Held at the Millennium Plaza Downtown Hotel, the event featured popular UAE-based Filipino food brands such as Agemono, Chinese Star Restaurant, Paluto, Bibingka at Paratha, Irvins, The Desert Wok, Cuisinerong Pinoy Restaurant, Panadero Pastry Shop, Chibog, The Catch, Jaiko Taho, Top Creamery and more. “We want to share the flavors of home and foster a sense of pride in our culinary heritage,” said Asiyah “Vangie” Monjardin, Secretary General of the Philippine Business Council in Dubai and Board of Director of the League of Food and Beverage Entrepreneurs. The event also drew participation from Filipino and non-Filipino food lovers alike, with organizers aiming to appeal to a diverse audience. The event created an opportunity for Filipino expats to connect with their roots through food while offering other residents a taste of the Philippines. Marilyn Bantilo Martinico-Siervo, owner of MSM International Cargo and one of the sponsors of the event, expressed her excitement about the event, saying, “It’s wonderful to see our cuisine being highlighted here in the UAE.”

Dubai-based Multiline Design & Contracting company, which also sponsored the event, said it further showcased why Dubai, home to Filipinos and other expats, is a melting pot of cultures.

Visitors were also treated to cultural performances, and a showcase of Filipino delicacies. The aim of the event was to foster a sense of community and pride among Filipino expats while introducing other nationalities to the diversity of Filipino flavors. ICA/Expat Media
