Trump calls Wisconsin vote recount petition 'a scam'

  WASHINGTON – The camp of defeated US presidential candidate and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton will join the move of the Green Party to seek a recount of votes cast in Wisconsin over suspicions of alleged hacking of the election results in that state. Marc Elias, counsel for Clinton's campaign, said while they have not found proof of election irregularities in Wisconsin and will not contest the election results there, they will join the Green Party's efforts "to ensure fairness to all sides." The Green Party fielded Jill Stein as its presidential candidate. US President-elect Donald Trump shrugged off the recount petition of the Green Party saying the election is over and described such a move as "a scam" and "ridiculous". The Green Party has already raised more than $5 million to fund the recount of votes in Wisconsin and the state's election board is already preparing for the recount. Stein dismissed Trump's accusation that the money collected will not be used for the recount. Stein told CNN that the money raised will go to a segregated account that is only meant to fund the recount. The Green Party asked for "a reconciliation of paper records," which will also look into the integrity of the state's electoral system and not just a simple recount of votes. The group had alleged election irregularities in the state during the November 8 elections, particularly hacking of the poll system. Elias said although the Clinton campaign has not found evidence of vote tampering they will join in the effort to ensure fairness to all parties involved. On the other hand, Brian Fallon, spokesman of the Clinton campaign, said they have not sought a recount so far and they have not discovered evidence of vote anomalies. Clinton lost to Trump in the electoral vote but she won in the popular vote over the business magnate by more than two million votes.
