A taxi driver in Dubai has been sentenced to two years in jail for running over an Asian man in the Satwa area and then speeding off. The Dubai Criminal Court found the taxi driver guilty in the hit-and-run case that caused the victim 100 percent disability. The case dates back to February 2020 when the victim was walking with his friend after midnight in the Al Satwa area. Witnesses said that the taxi driver ran over the victim after the latter told him to turn down the volume of the music from his car radio. The taxi driver reportedly waited for the victim to cross the street before running over him and speeding off. The impact caused the victim to be thrown to the ground five meters away. He was seriously injured and was taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment. Police launched a manhunt for the taxi driver, who was later arrested. During interrogation, he denied running over the pedestrian. He claimed that the victim and two other people climbed over the bonnet of his car and refused to get down, and that when he moved his vehicle, they fell down on the ground. A forensic report showed that the victim sustained fracture to the skull, brain hemorrhage and traumatic brain clotting that affected his movement, speech, hearing and vision. ICA/Expat Media
