A housemaid who suffered life-threatening burns in a gas cylinder explosion in Ras Al Khaimah is now showing signs of recovery, with doctors reducing her burn assessment from 98 percent to 67 percent following treatment. The Asian housemaid had only been working with the family for about a month when the accident occurred last Friday (September 12) in the Asfi area, 96 kilometers south of Ras Al Khaimah City. The identity of the victim has been withheld due to sensitivities. According to Musbeh Mohammed Al Yaleili, a resident of the home, the blast was caused by a mouse that chewed through the rubber tube of a gas cylinder, triggering a massive leak and explosion during the time of the Isha prayer. “The flames spread rapidly, destroying much of the house and its contents,” Al Yaleili said. “The family was away visiting our late grandfather’s home at the time. We are grieving for the housemaid and praying for her recovery.” The explosion caused extensive damage, melting appliances, furniture, food containers, and even the kitchen’s plastic roof. Despite the destruction, the family said their focus is now on the injured housemaid’s survival. The 42-year-old woman remains in critical condition at a public hospital but has shown encouraging progress. Doctors confirmed that while initial assessments put her burn injuries at 98 percent, medical intervention has reduced the extent to 67 percent. On behalf of his family, Al Yaleili thanked Ras Al Khaimah Police, Al Munai Police Station, and Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence’s Kadra Centre for their swift response.
