WATCH Dubai day out for Pinoy household helpers

DUBAI – “It feels like my birthday!” a Filipino household helper said as she excitedly settled into the big white bus parked outside the Philippine Consulate in Dubai for a free getaway in Dubai. Expatmedia.net was invited to Indays’ Day Out on a Friday with a group of Filipino household helpers in Dubai. When asked, many of those onboard said it was their first tour of Dubai. “It’s costly to go places so I’m really glad we get to go on this free trip to the tourist spots in Dubai,” said Joy (full name withheld), a household worker in Dubai for the last two years. “What’s your website and Facebook page so I can check when our video will go live?” she asked. Mobile phones and selfie sticks waved in the air as a group of more than 20 household helpers posed for photos in the tour bus that was scheduled to take them to Dubai’s hotspots. Watch the fun here: First stop was Last Exit before the Dubai-Abu Dhabi border, followed by a trip to Atlantis The Palm, then Madinat Jumeirah and onto a dinner buffet in Deira. During the road trip, Dubai-based comedian Chokie of Carlos Tourism and CMG Cargo entertained the crowd with his brand of Filipino humour. "It's a great feeling to see them smile and look very happy," Chokie told expatmedia.net “It’s our way of sharing the joy to Filipinos household workers who don’t have time to tour around Dubai and to at least give them a chance to have a break during the weekend,” said Jason Roi Bucton, Vice-Chairman of the Bayanihan Festival 2019, which organized the event in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate, Emirates NBD and CMG Cargo.
