Hugh Jackman reveals Dubai’s Global Teacher Prize finalists

DUBAI – Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman announced in a video on Thursday the 10 finalists of the $1 million Global Teacher Prize. Jackman described the teachers as “real superheroes”. The ten have been chosen from 10,000 nominations of the best teachers from 179 countries. “When I was a kid, there were lots of superheroes that I wanted to be. But I can tell you right now, from where I stand, with all my experience, the real superheroes are teachers — they’re the ones that change the world,” Jackman said. “My favourite uncle was a teacher, my sister is a teacher, my brother’s a teacher, and I have always felt the most important job in the world is being a teacher,” he added. The Global Teacher Prize winner will be announced in Dubai on March 23, in an annual ceremony that was launched five years ago by the Varkey Foundation.
