International Humanitarian City to ship 600 tonnes of emergency supplies to Turkey and Syria victims via airbridge

The International Humanitarian City (IHC) will send 600 tonnes of aid to Turkey and Syria via the UAE airbridge to help the victims of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake, said IHC CEO Giuseppe Saba. The UAE has established an airbridge with the IHC to transport emergency relief supplies, medical supplies, and equipment to support on-the-ground aid efforts and search and rescue operations in both countries. As of writing, more than 34,000 people have died and tens of thousands injured in Turkey and Syria. In coordination with Emirates airline, other organizations and partners of IHC will send additional supplies following the first aid shipment, which arrived in the city of Aleppo in Syria. Saba also confirmed the arrival of supplies from the World Health Organization (WHO) in Turkey last week. He said Dubai's location was "very strategic" since, in around 7 hours, two-thirds of the population who reside near disaster-prone areas could be reached. The largest humanitarian logistics center in the world is Dubai International City for Humanitarian Services. Data from previous years also show that aid has dramatically increased in terms of the volume of relief supplies and the number of flights operated by IHC. Together with the Airbus Foundation, Emirates has supported humanitarian flights. Since 2013, Emirates A380 ferry flights have delivered over 120 tonnes of food and essential emergency supplies to those in need. KD/Expat Media
