Hundreds of bicycles seized as Ajman police crack down on reckless riders

  AJMAN – Following a crackdown on cyclists violating safety rules in Ajman, police have seized 332 bicycles in two weeks. Major Fuad Ali Al Khaja, Head of Traffic and Patrols Department at Ajman Police, said the crackdown focused on cyclists who were not wearing proper helmets and fluorescent jackets in disregard of traffic safety rules. Police carried out inspections in Ajman’s industrial areas and residential neighbourhoods where a lot of workers and delivery men use bicycles to commute. Al Khaja said the campaign was aimed at reducing accidents and educating bicycle riders about traffic safety laws. In Dubai, police carried a similar crackdown last month and seized 225 bicycles. Police said bicycles were involved in more than 17 traffic accidents that injured 18 people during the first six months of 2017. DAJ/Expat Media
