Hundreds of UAE volunteers help pack aid for Syria-Turkey earthquake victims

Hundreds of volunteers in the UAE flocked to Expo City in Dubai and Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi to help pack relief goods for earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey. At Expo City Dubai, volunteers could be seen repacking food items from the assembly line as part of the Bridges of Goodness for families affected by the earthquakes. Volunteers can still register via volunteers.ae. The joint programme involves Dubai Cares, Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), Sharjah Charity International, Ministry of Community Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. “The corporation was able to mobilise more than 500 volunteers from Emiratis and residents of various nationalities as part of the ‘Bridges of Good’ campaign to prepare thousands packages of food, medicines, clothes, health and winter supplies to support those affected by the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey,” said Abdullah Ahmed Al Shehhi, Operations Manager at Dubai Cares. Donations also include tents, sleeping bags, foldable beds, blankets, heaters, tarpaulins, cooking utensils and equipment, as well as medicine, medical supplies, water and canned and dry foodstuffs, Al Shehhi added. The ERC will be partnering with charities in the country to collect donations in cash and in kind in the next two weeks, and donors can log on to emiratesrc.ae/relief.
