DUBAI – Babies born to expatriates in the UAE must have a residence permit within 120 days from their birth, otherwise a fine of Dh25 per day will be imposed, according to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA). The ICA confirmed that a residence permit is issued for newborns on the sponsorship of an expat working in the private sector or free zone. Applications can be done via the ICA website on https://icp.gov.ae or the UAEICP app. Applicants can also visit customer happiness centres or typing offices approved by the authority. A residence permit application for newborns in UAE costs Dh250 and includes Dh100 application fee, Dh100 issuance fee, Dh28 electronic service fee and Dh22 authority fee. Applicants need to bring the baby’s passport which is valid for not less than six months, the expat’s salary certificate, copy of sponsor’s passport, colored photo of the baby, birth certificate, copy of residence permit of the father and mother and their work contract, lease contract, health insurance copy and a copy of the mother’s passport. Incomplete applications would be canceled electronically after 30 days.
