DUBAI – Abu Dhabi Police issued a fresh warning to motorists after a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that stopped in the middle of the road in the capital caused a multi-vehicle car crash. Abu Dhabi Police released footage of the horrific crash that involved at least four vehicles on a busy highway in the UAE capital. Watch it here The video showed an SUV slowing to a stop on the road after what appeared to be a burst tyre. A speeding car behind it manages to avoid collision by swerving dangerously to the side. However, an incoming van then crashes head-on into the SUV. The impact pushes the SUV onto another lane where it is hit by an incoming SUV that is also hit by another speeding car. In a post on social media, the Abu Dhabi Police warned drivers that stopping in the middle of the road for any reason is illegal. Police urged motorists to move their vehicle to a safe spot, or contact UAE police for assistance in case the vehicle can’t be moved. Drivers were also reminded against distracted driving, such as using their mobile phones. Under the UAE traffic law, this is punishable with a fine of Dh800 and four black points on their traffic file. ICA/Expat Media
