India: Teen girl arrested after shooting her rapist’s mother

A teenage girl has been nabbed for allegedly shooting at a 50-year-old woman in north-east Delhi's Ghonda neighborhood. In 2021, the girl, between the ages of 16 and 17, filed an FIR against the victim's son for allegedly raping her. The woman is being treated at the GTB hospital, and her status is said to be stable. According to a senior police officer, at 5:30 pm on Saturday, a report was received at the Bhajanpura police station that a girl had shot a woman at Subhash Mohalla, prompting a police team, including the Station House Officer, to rush to the scene. When the police arrived, the injured woman had been taken to JPC Hospital by her neighbors. "It was found that the woman runs a grocery shop and a girl aged between 16 or 17 years came into the shop and shot her with a pistol. Primary investigation further revealed that the alleged girl had registered a case under Section 328 (administering stupefying drug with intent to cause hurt etc.), 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and four POCSO Act against son of Khursheeda in 2021," said the official. "The suspected girl has been detained, and the weapon of crime has also been confiscated by the police; the injured has been sent to the GTB hospital after receiving primary care at the JPC hospital," the official added.
