India is set to develop one of its most powerful artificial intelligence supercomputers through a partnership involving Abu Dhabi-based G42, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), US chipmaker Cerebras Systems and India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). The project was announced during the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. The planned system will deliver 8 exaflops of computing capacity, significantly expanding India’s ability to train and deploy advanced AI models domestically. An exaflop represents a system capable of performing one quintillion calculations per second. At 8 exaflops, the new facility will mark a major leap in national computing power. The initiative follows recent high-level discussions between India and the UAE, including the fifth India-UAE Strategic Dialogue in December 2025 and the January 2026 visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India, which strengthened cooperation in technology, defence, space and energy. Officials said the supercomputer will support India’s AI Mission and enhance the country’s competitiveness in emerging technologies. The system will be hosted in India and operate under Indian regulations, with all data remaining within the country. Manu Jain, CEO of G42 India, said building national AI infrastructure is now critical for economic growth and innovation, allowing Indian researchers and businesses to retain full control of their data. Richard Morton of MBZUAI described the project as a shared effort to expand access to advanced AI tools for students and researchers tackling real-world challenges. Cerebras Chief Strategy Officer Andy Hock said deploying the company’s technology in India would accelerate the training of large-scale AI models tailored to local needs. Once operational, the facility will be accessible to universities, research institutions, startups, small businesses and government departments, with a focus on applications in healthcare, agriculture, education and public services.
