Indian comedian collapses on stage in Dubai, dies

  DUBAI – Indian comedian Manjunath Naidu collapsed and died on stage while performing at a packed show in a Dubai hotel on Friday. Naidu, 36, was performing at Signature hotel and had complained of high anxiety before he sat down on a bench on stage and collapsed onto the floor. The audience initially thought it was part of his act as he was just minutes into his stand-up routine. When he did not get up, hotel staff administered CPR while a shocked audience looked on. The comedian was taken to a hospital in Al Barsha where he was declared dead. The cause of death was not revealed. Naidu’s partner, Grace Chng, described him in a Facebook post as a “most amazing standup comedian, incredible improviser and great person with a big heart”. Chng said that Naidu’s remains will be cremated on Sunday (July 21). Final rites are scheduled on Tuesday or Wednesday, she said. Naidu was born in Abu Dhabi but spent his growing up years in Dubai where he has been performing as a stand-up comedian for more than five years.
